Thomas Stone Memorial Service

 

 

 

 

 

A memorial service in memory of Thomas Stone, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and Charles County resident is held each July 4th .

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This annual event is co-sponsored by the Thomas Stone Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Port Tobacco Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the General Smallwood Society of the Children of the American Revolution and the National Park Service.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Held on Independence day on the grounds of the cemetery at Habre De Venture, the home of Stone, the ceremony commemorates Stone’s life.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Southern Maryland Leatherneck Detachment of the Marine Corps League leads the procession to Stone’s gravesite, presents the colors and later plays “Taps”.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Following the guest speakers, wreaths are presented by each historic organization.
